We started our first day in Paris with a walk to a nearby café for breakfast before a tour of the Eiffel tower! Our plan was to walk toward our tour meeting point and hop into a nearby place, we passed by one café in particular and I noted that there was a good line of people waiting inside. I commented to my mother that it was probably a good place to stop… and man was I right! We were treated to french coffee, quiche and croissants. The croissants were so good that I went back after finishing the first round and ordered two more! It was particularly fun watching the locals walk in and buy their daily loaf of fresh bread.
After getting some refreshments, we continued walking toward the Eiffel tower and toward our meeting point. Mind you that for the last 4 months I have had NO access to any sort of cell phone data at all, meaning that I can’t load maps when I am lost without wifi. It was a little tricky finding the meeting point for the tour but eventually I led us to the correct spot.
We met with our tour guide and she passed around headsets and walked us over to the Eiffel tower with the group. Let me start by saying that the tower is very impressive but interestingly enough, many Parisians do not like the tower because they think it is touristy and too modern. I will insert a lot of picture below with some information we learned along the way!
After our tour, mom and I were both feeling hungry as it was around 2:00 PM by the time it was over. We made our way to a close by restaurant for savory crepes for lunch!
After lunch, we ubered over to the Musee d’Orsay which is a famous museum in Paris and we had the intention of going inside. Unfortunately, the museum was closed as Monday was a holiday for Parisians and also the day after election day. But we didn’t let a little disappointment get us down. We walked around the sides of the Seine River and crossed over a bridge to admire the beautiful sights.
We eventually ran into the Arc de Triomphe and spent some time admiring the beauty of the archway.
We ended the journey by walking all the way back to the Eiffel tower and returned to the café we visited earlier in the day for 2 more croissants and to try a fruit pastry.
We didn’t really have dinner that night because of our late lunch and pastry snack! It was overall a really great first day!
Worry less and smile more.
