Our first day in Florence wasn’t very long but we managed to see some pretty beautiful things! We arrived in Florence at around 1:00 PM and our first stop after dropping our luggage off at the train station was a local Gelateria for some ice cream and wifi. Luckily, a local man sat down by us and asked if we wanted any help locating things. Him and the store owner provided us with a map and he circled all the man attractions. He informed us that he was a 3rd generation Italian to have lived on the street of the Gelateria and the shop owner was a 4th generation. It was so kind of him to take the time out of his day to help us.
After getting situated our first stop was a local market where the vendors sell Italian leather bags and purses. My mom wanted to try a traditional Florence dish, cooked cows stomach sandwich. She was very excited to try it… but the end result wasn’t as satisfying!
We walked around the streets of Florence.
Saw the Duomo and basilica.
We also walked by Ponte Vecchio which is the most photographed bridge in Florence. It also is known as the only bridge that still has the small storefronts built into it. Traditionally they were meat shops but the smell was not attractive to tourists so now they are mostly jewelry shops.
We also hiked up to one of the iconic high points for a view of the city.
We stopped at a local Italian restaurant for dinner!
We then took a final stroll through the city before catching a taxi home to our Airbnb!
It was a great first few hours in Florence and we went to sleep feeling eager to explore more in the upcoming days.
Worry less and smile more.
